Michael’s Answer

Think of your skills/strengths, and how these will benefit the company. Think about it from their perspective, including the following considerations?

-Will the benefits of employing me be greater than the cost?

-Am I a good long term resource for this company?

I would learn about the company, their industry and their business model in order to be able to best answer these questions.

Michael makes some good points. One of the really difficult tasks you'll have is just getting in the door to talk to a potential employer. It's hard enough to get an interview for a job that a company is hiring for. I'd say it's going to be much more difficult to get an appointment to talk to a hiring manager about a job that is not posted, much less a job function they don't even have.
Use your network! Family, friends, classmates, whoever you know that might be able to help you get a meeting at an employer. For that meeting you must be extremely well prepared so you can convince them that they need to create the position. You should have hard data that shows how the position will bring value to their company via higher revenue, more efficient processes, cost savings, etc. And I'll reiterate, you need hard data so do your research to find data and information about companies that have this job position and how that job brings value to them.
