How do I find good research opportunities?

I know that research is extremely important for me as someone who wants to go into medical school, and I want to make sure that I have done a substantial amount of research in my summer. How do I find good opportunities and how do I know what is "good research?"

Herman’s Answer

Hi Hanan,

I am assuming you are current in your undergraduate studies. If that is the case, you should reach out to some of your professors and ask if they are doing research, or if they have colleagues or friends who are conducting research. This is a good way to get started; by building your network. Additionally, you can also look up for internships at other research institutions such as research hospitals, other universities, and biotech or pharmaceutical companies.

I highly also suggest adding in some clinic experience if possible. Experience in a hospital or clinic will definitely help you solidify your medical school application.

I hope this helps.

Best,

Herman

Completely agree with what Herman said. Going to academic summer camps, conferences with sessions that focus on students, participating in competitions sponsored by research agencies are also good ways to get in touch with research opportunities. Best of luck!
