Are there any true benefits in minoring in aa langauage?

I've always wanted to minor in a foreign language but wanted to see if it was worth spending the time in college to do or just learn on the side without the accreditation.

Hi Reina,

It is always good to have the ability to understand and speak a foreign language. Depending on what you intend to major in, knowing a foreign language is especially useful when it comes to Business major. Knowing another language opens up a ton of career opportunities and could potentially make you stand out among other job candidates. Many companies in the US are already doing business in several countries around the world, and they need someone who can speak at least one foreign language in order to communicate with the locals. If you can see yourself as one of the people who travels for business or work in a place that needs someone who understand a foreign language, I would definitely recommend you to take it as a minor. Learning a new language is never easy and requires patience. But knowing a foreign language can only open doors for you. If you only want to learn a language for fun and have no intention of using it in your future career, maybe you would want to consider minoring in another field.

Hello Reina, a language minor might make your resume really stand out if you work in an geo or subject area where the language will be used - like Mexico, France, Sierra Vista in the USA, or a gov company like ICE. Don't minor if you think it will bring your GPA down. Good luck!
