Chris’s Answer

Emily, I recommend you identify the skills a PR professional needs.  Then look at your experience and tailor your resume to accentuate those skills.  Communication.  Project management.  Leadership.  Whatever skills a PR professional needs will need to be reflected in your resume.

This skill could come in handy later in life.  At one point I found myself unemployed and needing to change industries.  I tailored my resume to show how my skill set transferred  to the new industry.   I'm sure you have accomplishments that a PR hiring manager will see

Good luck!

Chris recommends the following next steps:

Identify skills that PR professional's have
Identify those skills in your prior experience. Tailor your resume to show those skills
When you have a resume know your story. Know how your prior experience translates to PR. Show confidence and how you can bring value to the organization

Laura’s Answer

I think it's important to focus on your strengths, for example: hard-working, team player, proactive, reliable - you can use real life examples from school or volunteering. These are qualities any employer would want!

Fiona’s Answer

Do you have any volunteering experience? Any special interests, skills, achievements from these? Usually hiring managers like someone who is passionate about something, preferably something that is unique.

Michael’s Answer

First off, make sure your resume is free of typos and is grammatically correct.

You can start with the job description to identify the skills that are important to the hiring manager. From there like Chris states above, tailor the resume to match those skills. Be creative, but don't overstate your skills, that will only cause more problems later on for you and the employeer.

Good Luck...
