Should I apply for high-level national scholarships?
Some of these national scholarships are worth a lot of money, but are they worth the time and effort? There is only a small chance of getting in, and I am wondering if I should spend my time applying for more scholarships that are worth less rather than one large one. #scholarships #nationalscholarships

Hi Kaitlin,
It is great that you are looking into scholarships; the best way to pay for college is with free money. The answer to your question is, it depends. There are many national scholarships in a variety of fields, so it would be beneficial to which ones are best suited to your background and academics. After narrowing down the national scholarships, you should estimate the time required to fill out the application and maybe apply for a few of them. Personally, I only applied for one national scholarship, and spent most of my time applying smaller scholarships, which required much less time and added up a substantial amount in the end.
If you are currently in high school, I recommend talking to your counselor, or the individual in charge of scholarships, to see what is available through your school. You would be surprised at how many companies offer local schools scholarships and the lack of students who apply for them. Also, if you already know the college which you are attending, I recommend researching which scholarships your colleges are offer, and if you are eligible to apply. Also, check out Federal Student Aid website at (also known as FAFSA), where you can potentially earn grants and free money based on household income. The most important thing to do is make sure that you apply; you never know what you may end up winning!
