What are colleges with the best internship opportunities for business and political science students?

I know that getting internships throughout my college career is important to getting a good job and building experience, but are there any specific universities in target locations that have an increased number of opportunities as opposed to other colleges? #internship

Hi Tinni,

Good question (I think I answered some of your questions in the past). I would say that in order to find some of the better business and political science related internships, you are going to want to look at colleges that are either in cities or close to cities (ideally in a city, think Georgetown or NYU). Companies, firms, and organization that deal with business/political science are largely concentrated where the money is, and money is located in cities across the United States. The major cities attract large entities which provide great internship opportunities for students and you are going to want to be as close to these firms as possible. It is entirely possible to get a business/political science internship even if your college is not located near a city, but attending a college in a city is advantageous as you won't have to relocate for the internship, your school will often have a relationship with some of the best firms, and it is much easier logistically to communicate and interact with internship providers if you are close to them.

If you are willing to sacrifice having that large campus feel with a quad, grass , and trees , then going to an urban college is a great choice. I went to an urban college in Washington D.C. and it was one of the best decisions that I ever made. Sure I did not have a typical college experience, but I was afforded outstanding internship and work opportunities. My university engaged with the city a lot and had some amazing connections that we students were allowed to take advantage of. I got to go to incredible speaking events, met scholars at the top of their field, and had 3 fantastic internships with the federal government. All of this was largely due to the location of my school, the relationship my school had with the city, and the sheer amount of top notch internship providers in the local vicinity.

I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck.

Best,

Austin

I don't think there is one school that could offer more opportunities for internships than another, it is all about putting yourself out there and finding the opportunities. Something that might help with business related internships is being somewhere near a city. I am currently right outside of Baltimore, and I have found a lot more opportunities than I might have found in a rural area.
