Consider going into public accounting. It will allow you to see how businesses run and you will learn about accounting and finance. Once you have your CPA license you have the option of staying in public accounting or going private and working for one company. Public accounting opens many doors.

Hello Oscar: Great question. To begin. I recommend gathering information about both so you can make an informed decision. To reliable and data supported sites are occupational outlook handbook and onetonline.org. In the searchbox of each, type in one area of interest at a time then spend at least one :30 minutes searching around the site and reading the details of each area including the demand for work in each firld, rates of pay, and skills needed also average day of work. Talked notes by making two columns on a sheet of paper: business /finance. I will caution you, there is a lot of overlap between finance and business. Finance is a specific area within business. Other specific areas are banking, entrepreneurship, accounting, business to business, and others. After reviewing the sites, ask yourself which you like more and matches your natural tendencies best. Good luck!

Ken’s Answer
The areas of business and finance are very interesting and very broad. In order to decide which would be appropriate for you, I would suggest getting to know yourself better and then selecting the area which is best suited for your personality and interests. During my many years in Human Resources and College Recruiting, I developed the following steps which have helped many. Too often, I encountered students who skipped these steps and found that they did not like the practical application of what they had studied. Best of luck on your education/career journey!
