What are activities I can participate in before classes start so that I don't get homesick? List some activities that I can look for or groups I can join that will make this transition smoother?
Living on campus away from my family will be a first for me and my family. I am the first of my family to leave home and attend college away. I am anxious and nervous. I am a very independent person but since is the first time I have been away from my family I want to know what are some things I can expect. #onmyown, #newadventure4all #college #college-bound.

During Freshman orientation, my college hosted an activities fair where various groups on campus set up tables offering information and a chance to sign up for communication about their upcoming events. You can find activities similar to ones you may have been part of in high school and also find new ones to explore.
If you are living in a Freshman dorm, there may also be activities planned by your RA to help you get to know about others living near you. Don't hide in your room--join in. More than likey, you won't be the only one trying to find your way in an unfamiliar place.
If you are active in a place of worship at home, you may want to seek out a place of worship near campus where you can meet others students and members of the local community with similar interests.
You should also check out what your college offers as intramural sports options. There may be an opportunity for you to experience a new sport and meet new people.

I’m also the first person to leave my hometown for college in my entire family. This will give you some great memories, but it’s also important that you remain in contact. So, maybe set up a weekly or biweekly FaceTime with your family so you guys stay in touch. They’re always just a phone call away.
