Medical Assistant duties vary depending on the practice/specialty you are in. You will learn many things on your journey as a MA! It is a very rewarding job and you are always on your toes handling different things. You are the first person a patient interacts with at a medical pratice. You ask the important initial questions, check vitals and conduct various tests that any specialty office would allow you to perform. If you are unsure about wanting to work in the health field MA is a great place to start. There are many schools now that offer MA to RN courses also, so if you really love being a MA and think you want to continue your education it is very easy to do so, and you get to test out of certain classes to get you to you RN more quickly than a student just starting off.
thank you for the answer this helped me alot

Hello Larissa!
As an MA working in ophthalmology, it has been a rewarding experience thus far! My responsibilities include checking patient's vision, performing visual field tests, organizing medical diagnoses and treatment plans that the doctor states, and assisting in procedures like removing skin tags or styes that have arisen around the eye. The MA position will depend on the specialty, but these are specific to ophthalmology! Overall, it is a great way to build team-work skills and hone your clinical skills if you are interested in pursuing a career in the health field. I have utilized my position as an MA as a stepping stone for my future plans to become a physician assistant.
In my opinion, the best part of being an MA is the interaction you have with patients. It is truly exciting to hear what patients come in with and to see how they are progressing with their treatment with each visit. It is also fun to hear about their personal lives and what they do! I came to quickly realize that I love connecting with patients and always look forward to that aspect of the job.
Hope this helps! Good luck with everything!

Becoming a medical assistant or nurse is a great idea! You can usually get a medical assistant certificate within one year after finishing high school. Nursing programs take either 2 or 4 years out of high school. Being an MA is faster and will give you an idea of whether or not you want to pursue nursing if you are unsure.
Medical assistant candidates are required to have graduated from a medical assisting program (may be a one-year certificate or diploma program or a two-year associate degree program) that is accredited by either:
The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP)
The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES)
Then, you must take and pass the CMA Certification Examination
Lots of jobs will be available to you with ample opportunity to advance.
Good luck!
