The hardest part about being an advocate is assisting the victim while also empowering them. It becomes very easy to ease their way through the system and 'take care of things' that are simple for system insiders. Victims need to take ownership and learn the process as part of their healing and growth past the experience. As a caretaker in the system, we keep them from being victimized by the process, but we need to help them not feel as though they are always going to be treated as a victim by those around them.
