Are dual credit classes or AP classes better for preparing for college?

Both are ok approaches. If dual credit includes actually physically going to the college to take a course (some do, not all though), then that's obviously the better choice. Since it's, you know, actually college.

My children participated in AP classes and many of them were eligible for dual credit for the same course. I urged them to do both, as suggested above, to take advantage of all options.

Both are excellent college preparation. I would suggest signing up for and paying for the dual credit class. Then at the end of the year, I would suggest still taking the AP exam. That way, you can look at your university's policy toward these credits and choose whichever is the most favorable.
