Colleen’s Answer

Hello. The physical therapy field has grown a lot and moved to a clinical doctorate degree. It requires 4 years of college, followed by a 3 year (usually) DPT program. Most people major in kinesiology or athletics training-- among others... I majored in fitness and human performance, but had a few classes I had to take to fulfill the application for a PT program. Talk to your guidance counselor to see what school is best for you.

The reward is great! I love being a physical therapist and helping my patients!

Hi,
Good question... I found the below information on apta dot org;s website. Hope it helps.

physical Therapist Degree
Professional (entry-level) physical therapist education programs in the United States only offer the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree to all new students who enroll. The Master of Physical Therapy (MPT) and Master of Science in Physical Therapy (MSPT) degrees are no longer offered to any new students in the United States. To practice as a physical therapist in the US, you must earn a physical therapist degree from a CAPTE- accredited physical therapist education program and pass a state licensure exam.
Licensure
After graduation from an accredited physical therapy education program candidates must pass a state-administered national exam. Other licensure requirements for practice vary from state to state according to physical therapy practice acts or state regulations governing physical therapy. Visit the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) website for more information about PT licensure requirements.
The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) is the only accrediting agency recognized by the United States Department of Education for PT education programs.
