Congratulations on being interested in finding the right career to follow.. It takes a special person to enter into a specific, but rather broad career field, such as medicine, and meet the demands which that career area presents. The first step is to get to know yourself to see if you share the personality traits which make one successful in that area. The next step is doing networking to meet and talk to and possibly shadow people doing what you might think that you want to do to see if this is something that you really want to do, as a career area could look much different on the inside than it looks from the outside. When I was doing college recruiting, I encountered too many students, who skipped these important steps, and ended up in a career/job for which they were ill suited.

It's great that you are thinking about this, and I echo many of Ken's advice. Networking and talking to people is key. I would also advise to find internships or if interested finding other ways to train or educate in the field like getting your EMT, going to conferences, etc. Along the way your list of I don't want to do's will typically be much longer than your want to do list. Keep all of this on track, and try to be open minded and if opportunities arise I would jump in and learn as much as possible. Also, remember that in the long run getting experience will lead you down your path in one direction or another. It is rare to not deviate from a pathway especially in the medical field. Good Luck!
