Dear Joana, So glad you are considering becoming a Registered Nurse. It's a great job and very flexible, but you will need to be a serious student to pursue this dream! If you like to work with people and enjoy science and math, then this is the job for you! I have been a nurse for 29 years and still enjoy working in the hospital. I have met lots of students over the years as people come through our unit to learn more about this specialty. The students who do the best are the ones who are not afraid to ask questions! Best of luck to you in your future

Thank you comment icon The math and science are very basic when you are pursuing your BSN. Two anatomy courses, a few biology courses, math for nurses. It's not hard, you just have to be determined and really want it. Donna Lipiner

Gary’s Answer

Hi,
I used to be a career counselor/advisor for Nursing students so I know a little about this. Nursing is challenging, both in school and on the job but it is also very rewarding and worth it for a lot of nurses I have known and worked with. I would not say the field is competitive for finding jobs, it is a job that is high in demand by employers.
hope this helps...good luck

Kali’s Answer

Becoming a nurse is a very rewarding occupation. Nursing school is not for the weak. Depending on which schools you apply to, nursing school can be very competitive, basing admission on grade point average and extracurricular activities. Nursing school is doable, however. I achieved my BSN in nursing and played college sports my freshman year. The only recommendation I have is that nursing school does take a lot of studying and nursing students do not have a lot of free time with all of the studying and clinicals needed to graduate. Nursing is a highly regarded profession and there is always a need for nurses, so job shortage is not a problem. If your heart is leaning towards nursing, GO FOR IT!
