How can the responsibilities as a RA benefit me during college other than the financial aid benefits it gives?

I've been told that being an RA can be a challenge, but I'm aware that every job benefits a person in some way. I'm wondering as to how an RA's duties can help me get through college other than the fact that an RA receives tuition coverage.

Being an RA is so much more than just getting free room and board/meal plans. You're able to build your leadership skills and learn how to work effectively as a team (which are very lucrative to most careers/jobs!) It's also something that you can easily bring up in many interviews, especially since you'll have many stories to tell about dealing with difficult people or hard situations. As an RA, you also become very close with not only your residents but other RA's and professional staff as well. This is a great way to build connections that can last a lifetime. I've been an RA for approximately a year now and have learned so much about how to effectively handle situations involving mental health and crisis, as well as overall improved my leadership skills. I highly recommend becoming an RA if it works for you and your schedule!

Being an RA is a great way to get some financial assistance while working on a variety of useful skills. Being an RA allows you to work on your interpersonal skills as well as your conflict-resolution skills. These can be valuable when applying and interviewing for jobs. You'll also have the opportunity to meet an amazing array of people. I'm still in contact with about a dozen of my former residents, as well as most of my colleagues from when I was an RA.
