Hi Alexandra,
I've been in education over 40 years. What I've learned and observed, is that the best teachers have a true, heartfelt desire to help children achieve their academic, social and emotional excellence. They want to learn any and everything they can - they are curious. With this curiosity they seek knowledge to be the best teacher by using the best, research-based methods and strategies to engage students and support their achievement. I live by and believe in being a "lifelong learner". As teachers, we must be open to learning and trying out methods that might be different. We have to be flexible. Our number one goal is to do the best job we can to reach each and every students - no matter the challenge. I was a special education teacher, so I want us all to be honest with ourselves as we reflect on reaching struggling students. I want us to be able to seek strategies that meet the needs of all students. If you design learning to help one student, it will inevitably help all .....
I was very blessed and lucky to attend a wonderful university for my undergraduate studies - Bowling Green State in Ohio. I learned later that it had one of the best programs in the US. Seek and research those universities that are the best today. Take professional development opportunities every time you are able. Be open to new challenges with a positive attitude. I love being a teacher and support anyone who has that mission .... passion. It's a passion of service that blesses you each and every day. It puts a smile in your heart to know that you've reached a child and helped them unlock the mysteries of our world. We are building and growing global citizens. We have a fabulous vocation.

I believe to become a good teacher you need to develop some key people skills including patience and flexibility and to have a strong desire to help ALL children succeed. The best thing you can do for your students is to be a role model of what you want them to become. While they may forget the details of what you teach them, they won't forget how you made them feel!
You've chosen a great profession.
