Both of these are incredibly awesome options. I would know because I graduated from college with an International Affairs degree and am currently in law school.

I agree with Victoria! You should think about what kind of career you would be more happy and fulfilled in. There is a lot of cross-over between international affairs and law, but they are very different at the end of the day. I'd recommend pursuing opportunities like internships in both to see which is a better fit. (This should be relatively easy because they are both fields with a lot of opportunities).

You can be an introvert in both for sure! But, don't close the door to anything because you might surprise yourself with what you end up liking.

Good luck! And I'd be happy to answer any other questions you might have. They are both equally amazing paths.

Robert’s Answer

Law has plenty of back-office research and writing. Sounds fair for an introvert.

Victoria’s Answer

Hi Demca,

Both of those career choices are excellent. Most professional fields offer a range of jobs for introverts and extroverts - from interacting with a lot of people to almost no interaction at all.

It might be really helpful to create a list of all the things you enjoy vs. don't enjoy, including interacting with people, public speaking, and teaching. There are some amazing jobs in technical research, writing, data analysis, library science where you use your law or international relations skills and interact less with people and more with data, original texts, and observations. I know you will be great at whatever you choose. You might even double major or dual degree in both!

Victoria recommends the following next steps:

check out these links: https://www.mastersportal.com/articles/584/what-can-i-become-if-i-study-international-relations.html and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_law
Talk to practitioners and try to shadow professionals in this field. Learn as much as you can and keep a folder of articles, ideas, and information on each area.
Sometimes when you are very interested in the specific work that you do or the career you choose, your interest in this mission makes you less concerned about interacting with people because you really want to share your ideas. Be open to new experiences.
