Picking a major that leads to a specific career makes sense *IF* you know what career you want. But don't let a narrow path dictate everything. You want a major that excites you and that you enjoy. If you love it you'll do well, and have a great college experience. College so so much more than just "job training."
For example, there is no specific "pre-law" major. Philosophy is popular as is history. But you could major in loads of things and still get in to law. Ditto med school. You need to get your requirements (chemistry, anatomy etc) but you don't have to major in them. In fact medical schools now are looking for diversity in background and are looking at music and history majors.
My wife is a VP of marketing for a major pharmaceutical company. She majored in Economics. I managed happy meals for McDonald's for a number of years. I majored in Philosophy.
Remember, soon after you graduate employers will stop caring what you majored in, or your grades. The shelf life on a major is short. In 5 years no one will care at all unless, again, you choose a career that requires more schooling like dentistry.
