I want to be a traveling nurse but after college I'm not sure where to start. Do I gain a contract with companies or hospitals?

I suggest gaining some hands-on experience by working as a nurse first. Most employers prefer candidates with 2-3 years of experience, as it assures them of your readiness for the job. apply & submit your resume here

Before you go straight into a travel nurse job, I would recommend working as a regular nurse for some experience. Employers are usually looking for at least 2-3 years of experience before they take you in so that you can prove to them that you are ready for the job.

Jami’s Answer

I would recommend being a nurse on a med/surg unit or in the ICU for at least two years before travelling. You will need a basic understanding of how to function as a nurse before you being travel assignments.

However, after those two years are up, you will contract with companies to begin travel nursing. They will line you up with hospitals.
