Is the a college for hip-hop dancing

#hip #hip-hop-dance #dance-teacher

Thank you comment icon I'm sure that you can go to a dance school that has multiple types of dance, including hip-hop, but I don't think that there is a school for specifically hip hop dance. Alexis

Kellee’s Answer

Hi Kristo! Thank you for the question. I don't know if there is a college that exclusively has a curriculum in hip-hop dancing, but if the college has "dance" as a major at all, there will probably be classes. My school, the University of Southern California, has a minor in "hip-hop, street, and social dance forms" in the Gloria Kaufman School of Dance. This school just opened only a couple of years ago and is doing well. The appropriate links to the website are in the suggested next steps below, along with some other suggestions.

Keep in mind that in order to get admitted, you may need to meet the college/university criteria (gpa, ACT/SAT...) to even be considered for their dance program. Most traditional colleges/universities have some requirement for taking base classes such as math/science/social science... as part of the curriculum. However, if you can find a college where your curriculum is 100% dance, then more power to you for pursuing your passion with a vengeance. :-)

I hope this helps.

Kellee recommends the following next steps:

https://kaufman.usc.edu/
https://kaufman.usc.edu/degrees/minors/
Research "colleges of arts and science" or similar online.
Research colleges that peak your interest and see if they have a dance department with majors/minors
Create a list of admissions criteria for the colleges/universities you seek and work on strengthing areas where you may be weak (academics, activity, leadership..). Be the best candidate you can be when you're ready to apply.
