What might be rewarding to one, might not be rewarding to another. Healthcare is a very broad area, and one area might be more rewarding than another. The important thing for you to learn is how your personality traits relate to careers, so you can live the American dream of looking forward to going to work every day and find it rewarding.
Getting to know yourself and how your personality traits relate to people involved in various career opportunities is very important in your decision making process. During my many years in Human Resources and College Recruiting, I ran across too many students who had skipped this very important step and ended up in a job situation which for which they were not well suited. Selecting a career area is like buying a pair of shoes. First you have to be properly fitted for the correct size, and then you need to try on and walk in the various shoe options to determine which is fits the best and is most comfortable for you to wear. Following are some important steps which I developed during my career which have been helpful to many .

Hi Elaina! If you are searching for a profession that gives BACK, then healthcare is an excellent choice. I have been a nurse for 32 years and love my job. I work in the NICU and care for babies who are very sick. Every year we have a "NICU Reunion" which is just a party that we throw for the kids who have "graduated" from the NICU. We invite families to return and have snacks and games and just enjoy the children. Last year when we had our party, a girl who just turned 19 years old came to find me with her mom and said she wanted to meet the nurse who was in her "first bath" video. She had been born weighing only a pound and I was there to care for her- It was such a blessing to hear that I had made a difference in her life! I believe that the field of nursing gives back to the nurse whatever you put in! I love the job and hope you find a job that you can love as well!
