There are many opportunities that people overlook. You seem to have a good grasp on the career you would like to pursue. For activities that use the public lands, I think an Internship or volunteering can get you started quicker than anything else. It will also help you meet people who can help you find the best fit for your career choice.

A position as a forest ranger, park ranger, hiking instructor, outdoor camp tutor for younger persons near forests, lakes, mountains, etc. Biology would be a good course in high school and college. A degree in Forestry would also be helpful.
