How can a student considered out-of-state be eligible for financial assistant/aid from his/her college?

That is if the student's permanent residency application is still in processing before the school year starts. #school

LaDavia’s Answer

Good Morning Eniola,

Out of State students are eligible to receive financial aid. They may receive less than their peers that are in-state but being out of state doesn’t disqualify you. Most universities will give students whether in or out of state, grants and/or scholarships if you have superior academic achievement. Also, if there is a financial need such as the student and/or parents living at or below the poverty line, these students demonstrate an increasing need and colleges will provide financial assistance in these circumstances also.

College is expensive, trust me I have a bachelor’s and Master’s degree, I know! But I’m happy you are either in college out of state or thinking about going to college out of state. This is very important for young adults such as yourself to get out of your comfort zone and be great to network meet new people and start your life. College is an experience everyone should explore. I hope this helps!

LaDavia recommends the following next steps:

go to https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/ and explore their grants section. Also Google, is your best friend. The question you asked above put it in google and see the results
If you happen to have any other questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Samantha’s Answer

I am currently an out-of-state student. I talked with the university during orientation about my options regarding the different scholarships and financial aid they offered to non-resident students. I was told that a university will usually wait a semester to offer non-resident students scholarships (especially being a transfer and not right out of high school).
Financial aid is always offered at school no matter in state or not. My school offers a parent-plus loan and my parents are able to take out a loan as well.
I would recommend looking into different scholarships online and apply for however many apply to you.
