Elise’s Answer

When I was a senior in high school I really wanted to go to college but knew that my family could not afford it. I made a pact to apply to one scholarship each day during the last few months of my senior year. I found that the national and global scholarships were really competitive, but the local scholarships had fewer applicants and less competition. I would suggest you reach out to some local vets in your community and ask if they know of any scholarships or internships that would look good on your application. You should also reach out to your guidance counselor at school, they will have a list of local scholarships you can apply to. By networking in my community, I ended up graduating high school with over 10K in scholarships that helped with my tuition.

When I applied to graduate school, I received an email from our math department about a school that offered a National Science Foundation scholarship, which I applied to and had my entire tuition covered. There are resources out there, you just have to ask for help. Your teachers, your guidance counselor, local veterinarians will be eager and willing to help.

Elise recommends the following next steps:

Apply to local scholarships
Reach out to vets in your community
Reach out to your guidance counselor
