Great question! Keep in mind that education is the most important job for any teen. As you grow into college or a job out of school, employers will look at how you balance your time with results. In other words, it will benefit you to maintain above average grades while balancing a job.

That said, when I was a teen I worked at the local grocery store here in central Texas (HEB). They had many teens working various jobs. Bagging groceries, checking out customers at the register, produce, bakery... They provided flexible part time hours and a great culture. I also worked at Dairy Queen. It was a lot of fun. If you are into cooking, maybe starting as a hostess/host at a local restaurant. This will get your feet in the door to waiting or working the front of the house and eventually get you into the kitchen. It will at least give you visibility into the day to day of restaurant management. Check with your HS to see if they have any culinary programs or partner with any local restaurants.

Good luck!

Hi Micah! First, let me say I think its great that you are thinking about your job opportunities at such a young age. This definitely shows your determination... One of the best jobs, that pays a pretty decent salary is working in a Library. Definitely check with your city to see about summer jobs/programs that are offered. Wishing you all the best in your job hunting! Thanks, Melida
