Richard’s Answer

It should be noted first that almost every accredited medical school in the United States can provide you with the opportunity to pursue any residency you want in the future. As such, you should put great consideration into the cost and mission of each medical school. Because you must attend college before medical school, many people graduate medical school with lots of debt. You should aim to attend a medical school that is not too expensive (typically, in-state medical schools are much cheaper).

After taking cost into consideration, you should look at the mission of the medical school, available on its website, and see if it aligns with your personal interests and passions. Every medical school has a different mission, and you can have the most fulfilling medical career if you attend a school that helps you reach your personal goal.

Estelle’s Answer

I agree with Richard. In addition, remember that medical school is a very demanding time of life. Look for a location that offers benefits like the support of nearby friends and family. Consider the expense of private versus public institutions, Also, pick an institution that fits your future plans; for example, some institutions focus more on research than clinical practice.

Rachel’s Answer

I would start by applying to medical schools that you think you could afford and where you are a fairly competitive applicant. Then, see where you get in. Once you have options, you will have the opportunity to interview and visit the school to help make your decision.
