The best thing that you can to is to determine which area in which you might want to concentrate and talk to people who are involved in those speciality areas to see how you might fit and what opportunities there might be for internships. Also, locate and contact professional associations to which nurses of your speciality interest belong, so that you can contact them and attend meetings. Many times these associations sponsor or know of such opportunities. Doing this in person is most desirable or if not use the telephone. It is important to use these means and now texting or messaging, as it is important to have a live two way conversation to allow for proper dialogue.
Getting to know yourself and how your personality traits relate to people involved in various career opportunities is very important in your decision making process. During my many years in Human Resources and College Recruiting, I ran across too many students who had skipped this very important step and ended up in a job situation which for which they were not well suited. Selecting a career area is like buying a pair of shoes. First you have to be properly fitted for the correct size, and then you need to try on and walk in the various shoe options to determine which is fits the best and is most comfortable for you to wear.
