Lindsay’s Answer

Hi Precious, this is a great question and comes up for a lot of folks - thanks for asking! Related majors sometimes cross-refer into one another. The majors you are referring to probably do not, but the way to find out would be to check your college catalog or to check with your mentor or guidance counselor at school. If you still have interest in exercise science and would like to work in education spaces informed by exercise/science/both, you can either double major or (at some schools) create your own major.

Lindsay recommends the following next steps:

Check course catalog
Check with guidance counselor or mentor to assess whether double major or a create-your-own-major is possible and makes sense for you

Precious, That is a great question and great that you are thinking ahead of potential impact. I would agree with Lindsey's feedback. When I was deciding my major, I reviewed my course options with my Dean to determine which courses would count for my current Major and understand which course I would need for the major I was exploring. This research and conversation helped me by ensuring I didn't waste time and money and allowed me to consider new options without fully committing. (For Example: I needed a communication course for an Education Major and I was exploring General Business, which also needed a communication / business writing course. The business writing course also counted / could be applied to the education major as well.) Finding courses that would apply to both majors allowed me to take a course that would count for credit purposes while allowing me a chance to explore a new major at the same time.

Simeon’s Answer

The more of the general entry level-classes you've taken so far, the more likely you are to use those hours in the new degree direction. Even some of your specialized classes should be able to transfer over as some sort of elective. Talk to your school counselor to see what your options include.
