Mahima’s Answer

Hairdressers / Barbers can specialise in a number of techniques around specific colour techniques, cuts, styling, so there's a lot to explore there. But if communication is important to you, there's also something like making custom hair pieces / wigs for people dealing with alopecia, medical treatment induced hair loss, or other health matters.
Or if you want something more creative, there are also options like hair and make up for films / tv / weddings, and even special fx artists.

Russ’s Answer

Hey Akeyleah, I would ask a different question. Instead of trying to read the future to see what "fits" you the best, I would ask myself: "What kinds of problems do I like to work on and solve? How can my strengths help me solve problems to make the world a better place?"
Too often we try to "fit" into careers. You don't have to "fit" any career. Just focus on your strengths and the kinds of problems you would like to work on, and create your own "fit" which will happen naturally/organically. Steve Jobs said that we can't connect the dots looking into the future, we can only connect the dots looking at the past. So focus on your strengths, and what kinds of problems your strengths can solve, and then watch your future blossom!

Russ recommends the following next steps:

TRY STUFF!
FAIL FAST, FAIL OFTEN!

Brandon ’s Answer

Honestly, one of my friends from middle school had a similar situation. He was passionate about hair and he was a fairly vocal person, but he didn't really have a job he liked, after hopping from job to job for 7 years. Now he works at a barbershop where he loves the job, makes good money (from what I know), and is living his life. He also has had a few celebrities come into his work and get their hair done.

Emma’s Answer

Being a hairstylist is a great career choice that many people overlook. You can work in a salon, go freelance, or specialize in areas like bridal hair, photo shoots, or even working with celebrities. Since you already love hair, you're ahead of many who are still figuring out their interests.

Cruise ship hairstylist is a really exciting option. Not many know about it, but it's worth considering. Cruise ships have salons and spas, and they hire hairstylists to work on board. You get paid to travel the world while doing what you love. Here's what you need to know:

- You'll need a cosmetology license, which you can start working on after high school.
- A couple of years of salon experience is helpful before applying.
- You'll work long hours and live on the ship for months, so being good with people is important. Your communication skills will really help here.
- Tips from guests are a big part of your income, so connecting quickly with clients is crucial.
- Most cruise line salons are run by a company called Steiner Leisure, which works with big names like Royal Caribbean and Princess Cruises.
- You work for about 4-6 months and then get time off. You can travel, save money, and then take a break. Many people enjoy this lifestyle.

There are other paths you can explore too. Your communication skills can lead to teaching other stylists, working as a brand rep for a hair product company, or even building a social media presence around hair. That's a real career now, and people are making good money from it.

The main point is you don't have to choose between loving people and loving hair. The best careers in this field need both. Since you're thinking about this now in high school, you have plenty of time to get qualified, gain experience, and find the direction that excites you the most. You're in a great position.
