Jasmine’s Answer

Congrats, I too am a first gen-college student. I would say my “village” aka support system were instrumental in my collegiate success. It’s going to be important to never forget where you come from but to also stay focused on where you want to go and no matter the adversity, keep going. Strive for excellence in all that you do and know it’s okay not to get everything right 100% of the time, shortcomings create an opportunity to learn and grow. I wish you much success.

Lorena’s Answer

Try joining clubs that can be your home away from home. My university has a first-gen program, or join facebook groups. many clubs that I've joined have been able to guide me towards feeling like a home

Eberto’s Answer

Hi Richard,

Community is a huge part of college. I was a first generation college and the people and faculty I surrounded myself around truly helped me get through some tough times. Always ask for help when needed and keep your community close!
