What should I study (major and minor in) in college if I want to be an elementary school teacher?
Should I specialize in something other than education? #teacher #colleges #school

You would major in Liberal Studies and your minor can be a choice of your specialization. For example, math or science. There are classes in general education that can help you decide what Minor would best fit you.

That's going to depend on where you live and where you want to teach!
I live in California and here we require elementary school teachers to have a college degree (most people choose education as a major or minor, but that's not required) and then they go to graduate school to get their teaching credential. There are also different requirements depending on what grade you want to teach. For example, if you want to teach high school you also have to get specialization certificates in your subject area - this is also done after your bachelor's degree.
I was originally going to be a middle school teacher (although I changed careers later) and I studied history as my major and literature as my minor. Then I applied to graduate school to get a teaching credential and a masters in history.
I would suggest looking up what the teacher certification rules are for your state and see if that's something you can accomplish in your undergrad or if it would require graduate school.
