I think the biggest thing is to craft your personal statement/college essay. You have the chance to show the admissions committee how amazing of an individual you are, so make sure to show it! Make sure you don't just write it and send; have many people look at it and give you feedback.

But you've done all you can do, in the sense that you've worked hard with school, extracurricular activities, etc. All you can do now is package it together and put a nice bow on it with your essay and application.

Go online and research the college, once you decide on a college, fill out an application. I recommend colleges that have free application fees first then look at your budget to see what you can afford to spend on application fees.

Dee recommends the following next steps:

Sayrin’s Answer

To prepare for the essays and alumni interviews, I think the best thing to do is reflect on your extracurricular activities, courses you took, and your background to see if there is one overarching story you are able to tell, rather than highlighting every single achievement or side of you. You don't want to seem like you all over the place. Is there one specific thing you are passionate about that led to another? Is there one experience that really defined who you are and everything you do? A particular hobby? Try to tie everything together in one good story!

Jenna’s Answer

If you're feeling overwhelmed, I would recommend narrowing your sights to 5-7 schools including a few reach schools and 1-2 safety schools. I remember wanting to apply to dozens of schools across the country, but when it came time to actually apply I realized that would not be feasible. Consider location, tuition, atmosphere, and areas of study that the school is known for when you're narrowing down your list. Your school counselor and the internet can be great resources in this process.
