Hi Trenton, great question! With so many health professions out there it can be difficult to choose which is a good fit for you. I'm a Recreation Therapist and work closely with Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech Therapists, Nurses, and Physiatrists. In Recreation Therapy we teach people with disabilities how to get back to their leisure and recreation interests by showing them adaptive sports or helping them recover from an injury or illness. Recreation Therapists (also not as Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialists) work in a variety of settings including rehabilitation hospitals, mental health, geriatrics, parks and recreation departments, prison system, and more. I chose this field because I wanted to help people with disabilities get back to doing things they loved all while enjoying my job. Recreation Therapy is a four year degree (also available as a Masters) and provides some great opportunities.

There is a vast difference in the number of years dedicated to education and training. Some people feel discouraged by the years ahead, but consider them an investment. I am a gynecologic surgeon, and I truly enjoy my job. I chose it because I enjoy all aspects of gynecology. I get to know some of my patients for years and years then have the privilege of taking care of their friends/family (mothers and daughters).I perform well exams and preventive medicine, treat infections, have office procedures, and perform surgery. I particularly enjoy surgery because I am very goal oriented and like to work with my hands and see results. You will find your career that fits you. Good luck!
