What does a good job mean if your not getting enough money?

I'm a middle school student and I want a job but can't find one that's right for me. What's a job if you work your butt off and not get enough money? if you could answer my questions that would be great thank you.

Ken’s Answer

Making a lot of money is not the best goal in life. There are many people who make a lot of money who are very unhappy, because they do not enjoy what they are doing. The goal in life is to look forward to going to work every day, because you enjoy it. The only thing in life that you might spend more hours doing is sleeping.
Good Luck!
I will be happy to help further if needed!

Find out what you are passionate about, you will then do well and make money. Lots of money is subjective , so who are you comparing your self too. Also as your career grows you will make money if you work with integrity. Slow and steady is a great goal to have

George’s Answer

Hey Justin. A good job means one that you enjoy going to work for. It does not matter if you make good money or enough money at this time and age. As long as you love what you do in your job that means you're already successful. Experience is the number one factor. The more you work and enjoy working the more experience you get. Money will come as time goes but make sure you love what you do and do it, don't worry about if your gonna make enough money or not. Do what you love. I hope this helps you out.

A good job is a job that helps you be stable in life. A nice worklife balance. Working in a place where you make more money but are unhappy is not really worth it.

Have you heard of the books Go Put Your Strengths to Work by Marcus Buckingham, or What Color Is Your Parachute? by Richard Bolles? They both have some things to say that might give you some ideas...also, it can be hard to find jobs of any kind as a middle schooler, so I definitely sympathize. And no matter what you take now, you might just not be paid so well...but you can work your way up in the next few years.

Justin,

You are absolutely correct! A person needs "enough" money to live comfortably and not have to worry about "what if." What if the car breaks down, what if the kids get sick, what if . . . .? Normally speaking, you can take a career choice in many different directions. For example, I majored in Sociology. I was working at the state workforce office, in a government job. This paid horribly. However, there I met other people who were looking for jobs, who majored in Sociology. One previously worked as a public relations officer for a major corporation - a well-paying position. Similarly, if you are cooking at a fast food establishment, you aren't going to make a lot of money. But, if you are cooking at a fine restaurant, the pay will be better.

I suggest you start by thinking about how you will define "Success." Too often, we compare ourselves to others, have to buy expensive cars so we can be impressive, etc. People mess up with money by not distinguishing between "wants" and "needs." You want a brand new Mustang - you need reliable and affordable transportation. (a used Honda Civic). The next place where people mess up is by not making a budget, and by not saving/investing for the future. By learning to manage money well, you will find it is possible to live on a lot less than most people need.

This does not mean to settle for a low paying job. But if there are things you are interested in, try to find the path to the better paying job within that field. So, if you want to do construction, you can work up to foreman, estimator, safety officer, etc. Sometimes you need help finding that path. If you want to share with us what sort of things interest you, perhaps we can help!!

Tien’s Answer

Follow your heart, do what you like, be the best of it, and money will come naturally. If you like what you do, there is no way you are going to do a bad job, and there is no way you are not going to make money.

Matthew’s Answer

There is a difference between a job and a career. Find a career you are passionate about and grow in it. The advancement and money will come as you grow with the company. You have to love what you do
