You have an interest in a very interesting and challenging career area. The best things that you can do are to get to know yourself better to make sure that this career area is one suitable for your personality traits and then talk to people face to face in person who are involved in this career area to see the inside view and see if indeed it is suitable for you.
One of the most effective ways of finding the answer is to use the following information, which I have provided (all very tried and true), and then making a phone call to the Smithsonian Institution to ask them directly what it takes to get a job there. They would be more than happy to give you some very helpful information over the phone.!! They would also be very impressed that you had the bravado and interest in their organization to make such a phone call!!!
