If you really want to take care of babies, you might want to be a pediatrician, or maybe a nurse. As an obstetrician/gynecologist you're going to focus a lot more on pregnancies (before the baby is born). To answer your question, an ob/gyn usually makes something over $200,000 per year. Here are the statistics: http://www.medscape.com/features/slideshow/compensation/2012/womenshealth It's not much of a surprise how much money they make; after all, they are in very competitive schools for a long time and they graduate with a lot of loans. I would suggest that you consider again what interests you about being an ob/gyn. Are you sure that you want to focus on pregnancies and women's reproductive health? Or do you actually want to spend time helping young children deal with sickness? Something in the way you articulate your question makes me wonder if being an ob/gyn is going to make you happy enough to drive you through the years and years of difficult medical school. Maybe you should think about what you enjoy about being with kids, and share it with us and ask for other suggestions to consider.
