What all is needed to run a Lactation Consultant Private Practice?

I've just started entertaining the thought of having my own practice. However, I'm not sure what all I would need to get myself going. Do I need an office, or can I run it out of my home? Should I only do home visits, or should I set up a home office and allow clients to come to me? Do I need malpractice insurance? How would I chart? #Privatepractice #LactationConsultant #Businessowner

Melissa’s Answer

As a nursing mother, I would say a small office or maybe work with local midwives/ doulas/ l&d department at the hospital for space where they are. While you may generally be doing home visits, it's good to have somewhere to keep records and meet clients for the first time as they may be nervous having a stranger in their home.

  1. Hey Sarah. There are many books that offer insight into the Lactation Practice. I would suggest reading up on it. Secondly I would become IBCLC certified.  Check out the actual international board that accredits lactation consultant. Good luck
