Kortnee’s Answer

Hello, Aileen!

The following majors are a great pathway for becoming a veterinarian:

  1. Biology
  2. Physiology
  3. Anatomy
  4. Math
  5. Physics
  6. Chemistry
  7. Zoology
  8. Microbiology

Kortnee recommends the following next steps:

Meet with a Career Counselor at your University to talk about how you may connect with alumni who are currently practicing as a veterinarian. Talking to veterinarians will give you an opportunity to learn more about the field and the majors they pursued before becoming a veterinarian.
Meet with an Academic Advisor at your university to discuss possible majors in order to become a Veterinarian.

Vickey’s Answer

There are two simple things you can do to get all of your questions answered.

Vickey recommends the following next steps:

Go online and do your research. Search everything you can think of about becoming a veterinarian. Write all your questions down. (Best to keep a journal with all the information in one place.)
Make an appointment with a veterinarian. Ask that person all the questions you have.
Make an appointment with your school counselor. Tell them what you want to do and ask for their help.
Pick a few schools you would like to attend and then quiz their counselors on everything about the program. Also include things like finances, room and board, books, etc.
