Angela’s Answer

Hi Alejandro,

There are a few factors you should look into when deciding which college to go to. First, I would look into the courses. Do the topics excite you? Are you interested in learning more? Then I would look into the major requirements. Which classes would you have to take to complete your Bachelors? Are there specialization options within the major? I would also examine if there are work opportunities that the University provides. A psychology research lab would be a great way to get experience. Finally I would reach out to the department and ask how they would aid in obtaining an internship or external work experience. Networking and getting experience is so important when you are in college, so I would really look what the school provides.

Best of Luck!

Hello Alejandro, thank you for your question. Well, I would suggest the first thing you can do is to make a list of what is most important to you. For example, you said you want to go to the school who has the best psychology department, well your first priority is going to be which school is most affordable for you and your parents. Choosing a college is not just about what school you like best you have to choose the school that suits your needs at the time, if the school is unaffordable right now you can always transfer in two years after you have put away some money. The reason I put that option out there first is because financial issues can be an undue stress on any college student, I just want you to understand it's possible to do it either way. Best of luck

You have made the first decision—Where in the world do you want to go to school? How close do you want to be to your family? What weather will suit you? Do you want to be in or near a large city?

Now that you have narrowed your search to AZ, research the schools that have the departments and programs that interest you. As an undergraduate look to see how large the departments are. More faculty in a department means more variety and choice in classes, perspectives, and advisors.

If you don’t know what your major course of study will be a larger school with many offerings will give you more options without needing to change schools.

Another decision criterion is the size of the school. Do you want to be at a large university or a small college? In what kind of environment would you feel more comfortable?

Answering these questions will help you narrow your choices to a manageable number all of which will be good choices for you.
