Michael’s Answer

Hello Will,

I was aeronautical and switch to mechanical because I wanted more exposure to the mechanical engineering content at my college. Later when I was graduating, I found mechanical gave me more opportunities to types of engineer and industries than my buddies with Aeronautical Engineering degrees.

What's key for you to answer is what are you interested in more? Aeronautical job types or Mechanical that can be a little broader? In my case, I thought I wanted to design airfoils to planes when I was in high school and was accepted in the Aeronautical program at my university, but once exposed to all the engineering disciplines in college I found out I was a little too focused! And, I really liked all the subjects of mechanical more than aeronautical.

Just make sure which ever you choose they are accredited.

I hope this helps. Best of luck!

Michael recommends the following next steps:

Visit a university and talk with the counselors with both of Aero and Mech accredited engineering and see the subjects and content of their courses. Determine which interests you more and will help you get what you want to be doing in a few years.
