Hi Eden. Have you looked into the AmeriCorps program? You can get some experience in a field that you find interesting, while receiving a living stipend. At the end of the 10 month term, you earn an education award that you can put toward future education (or some types of student loan debt). I served as an AmeriCorps member with Habitat for Humanity and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

Shelby recommends the following next steps:

Research AmeriCorps National Direct, AmeriCorps VISTA or NCCC

Paying for college is a great topic and in order of ease: (1) Start with financial aid since many schools do provide scholarships as part of their overall aid packages. They also can make you aware of scholarships that may be specific to you or their school. (2) Look for scholarships that you may meet their unique criteria. You may be more likely to get a scholarship when not that many people would meet the unique criteria. For example, there are scholarships just for children of veterans or majoring in a specific thing or from a specific state. (3) Look at the largest scholarship programs. For example, Dell Scholars Program which related to Dell Corporation give out 400 scholarships a year up to $20,000 and a Dell computer based on financial need. Another example is Gates Millennium Scholarships which give out 1,000 a year with the average amount being $12,000 based on need.
