Hi Ana! I really enjoy working for a nonprofit community hospital that offers both inpatient (acute care, critical care, NICU) and outpatient rehab clinic assignments, in addition to all of the resources of a large healthcare organization, like the chance to observe surgeries, free access to its medical library, CPR training, Grand Rounds, and interesting CEU courses hosted by the hospital. I have also worked for a privately owned outpatient rehab clinic and that also had nice benefits in terms of flexibility and lack of administrative constraints. I think if you are looking for a first job out of school, consider working for a larger organization where you can get plenty of mentorship and the opportunity to see a large number and wide variety of patients. To answer your question, "What do I enjoy most?" I would have to say I enjoy the relationships I build with children and families while doing the work. I also like learning something new every day. I am in pediatric rehab with infants and children, and I come across new research about a test, diagnosis, or treatment idea every single day. I love learning alongside my young patients. I have never once, in nearly 30 years, been bored in this job. Good luck with your career!!

Hi Ana,
Physical therapy offers several enjoyable aspects that make it a fulfilling profession. One of the most rewarding elements is witnessing patients' progress, as therapists help individuals regain mobility and improve their quality of life. The joy of seeing patients achieve their goals and regain independence is a gratifying experience. Building strong relationships with patients is another enjoyable aspect, as therapists get to know their patients on a personal level, making their work more meaningful.
Problem-solving is also a stimulating aspect of physical therapy, where therapists act as detectives to devise tailored treatment plans for each patient's unique condition. The variety of cases, from athletes recovering from injuries to elderly individuals seeking improved mobility, keeps the job interesting and diverse. Additionally, the field of physical therapy offers opportunities for lifelong learning and specialization, ensuring that therapists can continually expand their knowledge and skills. The positive impact on patients' lives, the autonomy in practice, and the ability to make a meaningful difference add to the overall enjoyment of a career in physical therapy.

I'm not a PT, but I am a physician and surgeon and work with PTs all the time! I think that they provide a very valuable service to the community with their skill set and get to build a relationship with their patients. I think that PTs are a vital part of the healthcare team and I wish you the best!
