Sarah’s Answer

YES YES YES times 1,000,000,000 nursing school is worth it. Nursing school IS hard. Think about it for a second. Have you ever been sick or know a family member or friend who has been sick that has needed to go to the hospital or doctors office? Chances are you have answered yes. I do not know about you, but I definitely do not want just anyone to administer a medication to me (without knowing what they are giving me, why they are giving it, and at the minimum what side effects to assess me for)...... I definitely want the person who is giving me medications, starting my IV, checking my vitals etc. to know what they are doing. I am not going to lie or sugar coat it nursing school is hard, and it is meant to be hard for a reason. All of the nursing skills you need to provide safe and effective care to your patients requires lots of studying, tests, exams, practice, care plans, hands on experience and so much more to ensure that you are practicing safely. If you have the love and passion to be a nurse.... you will get through nursing school. You have to have the drive and desire to achieve your goal... and you will. No one ever said it would be easy, but speaking from my own experience.... it was worth it!

Sarah recommends the following next steps:

Think about why you are considering going into nursing? Write a list of all the challenges you feel like you fill face. After writing your list, go back to each challenge and draft a plan of how you will over come each challenge. For example: financial aid is a challenge.... plan to overcome: call the financial aid office at the college and ask about financial aid options.. look for a part-time job. I hope this helps. :)

Barry Eugene’s Answer

From a personal perspective, nursing school is worth it. I always ask everyone to make sure that the profession of nursing is what they truly want prior to committing to the profession. I always inform those who are considering the profession that nursing involves a very high level of commitment. I tell my students, that there are times where you will have to place the needs of others prior to those of your own.

Nursing courses can be challenging and those who apply themselves will be successful. We have to remember that as a registered professional nurse that YOU are responsible for the lives of the people who are assigned to you. There is no room for error. Mistakes can cause harm or even worse. This explains the rigor one may encounter in their nursing courses. Yes, the curriculum is challenging but it can be done any many nursing school entrants are successful. You can become a nurse and I believe that your education is worth it.
