Jared’s Answer

Hello Bobbie-Lin A.,

It depends on a few factors. My Brother became a head chef while still attending a Culinary Arts college. He already had experience at different positions within a restaurant and was getting exceptional grades . So if you have experience, are getting good grades you may become one while still in school. Of course the restaurants hiring requirements need to be considered as well.

The timeline can vary pretty drastically. Are you in culinary school now? Have you worked in a restaurant before? If you have no restaurant experience I would highly recommend getting some before applying for a chef position. Most restaurants/businesses that would hire a chef fresh out of school with no experience are just looking for the lowest price to pay.
