Hi Steven,

There are a few things to keep in mind when thinking through where to apply for scholarships.
- What's your GPA, personal experiences, community service, leadership, etc.

I typically recommend that students look for local scholarships first and then expand to national partners. Given you go to Parkland Community College. That's the first place I would look. I see they have a link where you can find scholarship opportunities (I included the link in the next steps). I would also talk with a scholarship/financial aid coordinator on campus.

The next place I would look is for local scholarships in your community. Community Foundations typically have a great set of local scholarships. You can look for those near Parkland Community College (e.g., Community Foundation of East Central Illinois) or near Merrillville, Indiana (where it says you are located) - The Legacy Foundation.

I would also check with local credit unions, churches, or even your former high school.

Local scholarships typically have fewer people applying so good luck!

Kenneth recommends the following next steps:

Check Scholarships that your school offers: https://www.parkland.edu/Main/About-Parkland/Department-Office-Directory/Financial-Aid-and-Veteran-Services/Types-of-Aid/Scholarships
Check your local community foundations: https://cfeci.org/scholarship-opportunities/ or https://legacyfdn.org/scholarships/apply-for-scholarships/

The Automotive Aftermarket Scholarships: offers a large number of automotive scholarships worth up to $5,000. They work with over 40 organizations to offer these scholarships. There seems to be a general application that allows you to apply for all of the scholarships at once. In 2021, 427 scholarships were awarded out of 881 applications (which means that a little more than 50% of applicants received a scholarship, which is incredible odds).
