Hi Erica, it's great that you are thinking about ways to attack those much needed college credit hours while still in high school. In general, yes, dual enrollment credit hours count but you should check with the colleges you're interested in attending to be sure they will take the dual credit courses you plan to take. Also, AP courses are generally accepted as well, however, you must usually take and pass the AP exam for each class. Be smart, check with the colleges first then dive in and start ticking those credit hours away. My son and daughter were both able to get a jump on things by knocking out general college courses like English, Biology and Anatomy while in high school. It's worth it. My best to you!

Daphne recommends the following next steps:

Get the list of dual credit and AP courses you plan to take from your high school counselor.
Go to the website of the colleges you are interested in and find out how they assess dual credit and AP courses. Some already have a list of approved courses and others may require you send an email and provide course details (which a syllabus of the course normally does the trick).
Keep your counselor in the loop. They are a wealth of information and should be able to ensure you take the right courses.

Yes, these both count as credit hours. That being said, you must achieve a passing score on any AP test for it to even be considered for college credit.
