The Marine Corps Career Retention Specialist is an enlisted Marine who is responsible to the immediate Commanding Officer for all aspects of retention of enlisted personnel in the United States Marine Corps.

A Marine Corps Career Planner is a person that works with other Marines who want to stay in the Marine Corps. If a Marine wants to re-enlist in the Marine Corps, they go see their Career Planner. He or she is like the school guidance counselor, they talk to other Marines about their job and whether they would like to stay in or not. It's also referred as Military Occupation Specialty (MOS) 4821
