Hi there,

Unless you have been involved in film production previously or are just totally in love with it, I'd say its kind of hard to know for sure if you should get a major on it.

As someone who makes a living in this filed, I believe you should try to get as involved in it as you possibly can. Try to join a film club, volunteer in student films or even take some free classes online. Anything you can do to get more experience will help give you a better understanding of what its like to work in film production and will help you get an idea of what you want.

Like with so many other crafts, there is SO MUCH you can do on your own without having to get a degree, that the best advice I can give you is to get involved and submerge yourself as much as possible in this wonderful world, and make use of the tools you already have at your disposition.
