Hello Scott,
That is a tough one to answer, since there are so many variables. Also, what is "reasonable" to you, might not be reasonable to me.
Starting salaries vary from airline to airline, location to location, experience level, time of year, licenses and/or specialties that you may have, and ultimately how well you sell yourself in the interview process.
With the technician shortage right now, a ballpark figure would be in the mid 20s to the low 30s per hour with one of the major airlines. An A&P technician with avionics experience, will go way above that. In San Francisco, it will probably be on the higher end due to the high cost of living there. This time of year, as they are starting to ramp up for the busy holiday travel, may also push it on the higher end, especially since they know that they will only need you till the new year. Airlines have strict guidelines in pay scales, but if you interview well and sell yourself right, you may get a little extra.
Hope this helps. Good luck!

There are other routes such as being a technician for general aviation, even corporate side, regionals, MRO’s that will vary your earnings.
It can be lucrative, but I would recommend rather than following the money do something that you have a passion for, the money will eventually follow - the extreme case I wrote about above I can guarantee that that individual sacrificed a lot and I don’t think that is sustainable both physically and mentally.
