Kim’s Answer

Karen has given you some excellent advice. My only additional thought to consider is to confirm that you have selected the right career choice. One way to do this is to gain insight into your true strengths. My favorite assessment is StrengthsFinder. The resulting report will provide insights into your natural strengths and what opportunities may be potential options for you. This may help to validate your career path or perhaps open more opportunities for you. Best of luck in your journey.

Kim recommends the following next steps:

Research the StrengthsFinder assessment to determine application to your decision-making process.
Take the assessment and review the resulting report to determine potential opportunities for your career path.
Retain the report for reference as your career progresses.

The answer depends on what career you've chosen. I'll assume you've confirmed the college offers the program you want - so if your career is as a chef, there's a culinary science program at the school you've chosen. If you're targeting a more general career - say "business" or "accounting" or "forestry" - at the undergraduate level, any school which offers a credential in the topic will give you the foundation you need (even schools that exist primarily to take your money will have halfway decent training in these credentials).

If you have no idea what you want your career to be, and can afford to start with a four-year school, it's less important what school you pick and more more important that you take a wide variety of courses - calculus! American Literature! Introduction to Marketing! The History of Political Parties in America! Artificial Intelligence! - browse as widely as you can for as long as you can. When something speaks to your heart, start to dive deeper. You've found your career.

Ceil recommends the following next steps:

State clearly what career you want.
Go to the websites of the schools you're considering and investigate the courses they offer in that career
If you don't have a career choice, Google the colleges in your area - 2-year, 4-year, etc. Read about the majors they offer.
Find the least expensive one and go there.

Karen’s Answer

I would do a good amount of research before choosing. Asking to talk to former students who have graduated and are working in the field that you have interest could help you narrow your choices.

Also consider running searches on LinkedIn to see the career paths for professionals who have graduated from these colleges as well. Good luck!
